Kristen Ford - Birds of Steel (Single)

Armed with two chords and fresh hope, Kristen Ford delivers her most uplifting outing yet on "Birds Of Steel," a bright and spirited track built around a simple but powerful mantra:
"everything is working out for me."
The phrase serves as both a mindful reminder to acknowledge success and fuel to persevere through adversity. "For all the troubles of the world, we do live in a pretty magical place where all we need to do is look up to see people flying around in birds of steel," Ford explains, referring to the airplanes that inspired the song's optimistic metaphor.
The accompanying video is directed and edited by legendary songwriter and DIY pioneer Ani DiFranco, who also co-wrote and co-produced the track. The video finds Ford trapped in a magical mid-century suburban timewarp, capturing stages of curiosity, wonder, boredom, and frustration.
"Birds Of Steel" caps off the singles rollout for Ford's upcoming album Pinto (out August 22nd), following previous releases of the bittersweet "Whiplash," trans-rights anthem "Wild Heart," the self-affirming "Here's To You Kid (feat. Ani DiFranco)," and the patriarchy-busting "White Man's Dream."
At its core, Pinto embodies Ford's belief that "the rulebook has been thrown out by the current administration, we can turn this disorder back on them and boldly create the world we want." Or, as she puts it more directly: Or, as she puts it in her less guarded moments, “it’s time to be louder, be bigger, be brasher motherf*cker!
Pinto arrives courtesy of DiFranco’s Righteous Babe records and is the culmination of a
relationship that began in 2022 when DiFranco met Ford at a show in Provincetown, MA, quickly becoming a fan (while Ford credits a DiFranco live show as being the spark that led her teen-self to devote her life to songwriting). In the time since, these two artists have toured together, co-written four of the Pinto songs, and worked on numerous album tweaks at Righteous Babe Studios. Whether it’s the songwriting and production chops lent by DiFranco and John Driskell Hopkins of Zac Brown Band, or the mastering touch of Randy Merrill (Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, Olivia Rodrigo), Pinto is an album that celebrates the artistic power of joined forces.
