“Gracie and Rachel Deliver Folk-Pop for the Future….” – The Line of Best Fit

New York, NY – Today, Brooklyn indie-pop duo Gracie and Rachel release their evocative new single "Leaving Home Is Going Home” from their upcoming album If We Could, Would We, out April 10th on Righteous Babe Records. On “Leaving Home Is Going Home,” Gracie and Rachel harmonize on the idea that home exists as much within the self as it does in a physical place. They are joined by Ani DiFranco, Gail Ann Dorsey, Jesca Hoop and others, who add additional vocals and layers to the piano-driven ballad. Gracie and Rachel unite their experiences in the song, which they wrote separately during a period of individual reflection. “The track explores how departure and arrival blur together, making leaving a sense of ‘home’ sometimes the truest way of finding where you belong. The piece features an incredible cast of characters from our Righteous Babe community and beyond. We wanted a choir of voices to empower a message of longing and connection, from people all over the world, yet under the same moon.”
If We Could, Would We is the latest effort from the duo who released their self-titled debut to critical acclaim in 2017. Since then, Gracie and Rachel have been seen on stages opening for Tori Amos, Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, and others. They have performed two NPR Tiny Desk Concerts and been praised by the outlet to “mix pop and classical in stark, infectious ways and make unforgettable, surprising music.” Their 2025 single “WTF” earned praise from The Line of Best Fit who raved, “Gracie and Rachel Deliver Folk-Pop for the Future on “WTF,”’” and Rolling Stone which named it a “Song You Need To Know.”
The vulnerability of Leaving Home Is Going Home is echoed throughout If We Could, Would We, their boldest and most daring album yet. If We Could, Would We confronts regret and vulnerability head-on, landing on one clear truth: the only way out is through. They teamed up with producer Benjamin Lazar Davis (of Joan As Police Woman, Okkervil River) to accompany their sound as they pushed themselves to grow sonically and lyrically. If We Could, Would We expands their instrumentation, with Rachel incorporating the guitar on record for the first time and adding in a diverse array of other instruments and textures across tracks. The songwriting process evolved as well, with each artist contributing their own four solo songs and meeting in the middle with four Gracie and Rachel tracks.
After their European tour in 2025 with Ani DiFranco and a series of solo dates, next up for Gracie and Rachel is a March tour with Marissa Nadler. Dates are below and on their website HERE.
Openness abounds on If We Could, Would We, and Gracie and Rachel dare to take the listener to that same place. It’s a daunting but necessary task, and Gracie and Rachel move forward to come out stronger.
