On The Swimming Hour, Andrew Bird and his Bowl of Fire bandmates create a hearty sonic meal that combines the operatic swagger and ambition of Rufus Wainwright with handfuls of garage rock, hot gypsy jazz, Texas country blues, and European folk. Andrew supports his clean tenor with waves of strings, trademark Morricone-worthy whistling, and inventive percussion.
Andrew's two Righteous Babe Records releases, The Mysterious Production of Eggs and Weather Systems, serve as evidence that he has conquered the role of the solo performer. The Swimming Hour, deemed by NME as "one of the year's [2001] most refreshing releases" demonstrates his mastery as a bandleader.
