In the words of KRS-1, “This is hip-hop.” Founded by drummer Daren Hahn (Ani DiFranco, the Eels, Geggy Tah) and bassist Casey Sidwell (Future Jazz Project), Break Mechanics create engaging hip-hop with a funk and jazz backdrop. Also featuring Greg Raymond on keys and MC Paas, they have succeeded in forming a true, live hip-hop experience that explores many styles without straying from it’s roots.
From the Denver underground scene Break Mechanics have gathered a steady following. As a result, they’ve played with national acts Blackilicious, Slick Rick and KRS-1. In addition to capturing their live energy on disc, this self-titled debut includes an extra added bonus: Ani makes a guest appearance on “Zen, Zen,” proving once again that folk and hip-hop can latch with explosive results. This is serious musical integrity and hip-hop legitimacy.
