On Thursday, August 26th, the Artists Network of Refuse & Resist! will present "Unconventional Heroes: An Evening of Performance Honoring Courageous Resisters" to recognize people who stood up for their beliefs in the face of extreme resistance and danger to their own well being. The list of honorees includes people like Camilo Mejia, who was the first soldier to go AWOL because of his opposition to the Iraq war, and Aaron Lebowitz, a high school student who led students and adults to fight against a school-board-supported resolution to teach creationism. The event will take place at NYU, so join artists like Dan Bern, Blair Brown, Odetta, and many more in honoring these heroes. If you aren’t going to be in the area that evening, you can also make a donation to ensure that the honorees will be there. To read more about the event, or the honorees themselves, click here.
