On July 9, we visited "Dr. Cynthia's" medical clinic in the town of Mae Sot near the Thailand/Burma border. A Burmese woman named Cynthia Maung runs this medical clinic, which started from the back of a pick-up truck and has grown to cover several acres of land just outside of Mae Sot. Cynthia treats anyone who walks through the front-door, and people come from all around Burma and Thailand. We were given a tour of their in-patient, out-patient, malaria, and prosthetic clinics by Bronwyn (white T-shirt), and 4 of us donated blood for transfusions. The prosthetic clinic is needed because many refugees lose feet or legs to land mines while trying to escape Burma's military regime. In the top photo we are being introduced to an extremely talented Burmese artist, who has painted educational posters that hang all around the clinic to help people understand illness transmission, diagnosis and treatment.
